The coach I wanted for my own training.

Perform's Today and Workouts screens

I wanted WHOOP-level insight into my training, but for the Apple Watch I already wore. Nothing good existed. At the same time, WHOOP had made a run of product decisions that left a lot of its users unhappy, which looked like a real opening.

So I built Perform quickly, for myself first: a way to actually understand my body while I trained. Strain, recovery and sleep from Apple Watch data, the habits I cared about, and an AI coach to turn it all into something I could act on.

Design decisions

  1. 01

Built on the watch you already wear

Perform reads strain, recovery and sleep from Apple Watch, so there's no new strap, no subscription to hardware, and nothing to charge. Those three rings open the Today screen, and everything else exists to move one of them.

  2. 02

Water was the feature I needed most

When I started taking creatine I noticed I was thirstier, and no fitness app treated hydration as more than an afterthought. In Perform it's a first-class card: a daily goal, quick logging, and a clear read on how far off you are.

  3. 03

    Streaks to keep me honest

I gave myself streaks for the habits that mattered, like hitting my water goal and logging workouts. Seeing the current streak next to my best is a small nudge that worked better than any reminder.

Your health data never leaves Apple Health

Everything is read from and written to Apple Health on your device. There are no Perform servers holding your body data, which made the privacy story simple and the product easier to trust.

  5. 05

A coach, not just a dashboard

Numbers alone don't change behavior. Perform's AI coach reads your data and tells you what to do today, and when a metric is estimated rather than measured, it says so plainly instead of pretending to precision.
